The fossil embedded in the rock is a fish. Fossil fish are usually preserved by being buried in mud and silt after their death. The remains are covered by sediment over time, and the sediment hardens into rock. The rock measures about 12 cm x 23 cm and the fossil fish measures about 4cm x 13 cm.
